In this post, I provide an in-depth review of the new Sony E 11-mm f1.8 lens for Sony E-mount APS-C cameras.
It’s a highly exciting time for the APS-C lineup, indicating possible upcoming camera launches.
Impressive Performance of Sony E 11mm
The Sony E 11mm f1.8 is an incredibly fast and sharp lens with features like super-fast autofocus, low-focus breathing, low chromatic aberration, and low distortion.
Cutting-Edge Technology
It has a fast aperture of f1.8 to f16 and a wide aperture of 11mm, which equates to around 16.5mm on a full-frame camera.
The lens includes the newest XD linear focusing motor from Sony, allowing quick and linear focusing, and can focus at a minimum distance of 15cm from the sensor.
With a small front filter thread of 55mm, it’s compact and fits perfectly on Sony APS-C cameras.
Durable Build and Seamless Autofocus
In terms of build quality, the 11mm f1.8 is plastic but feels like the material is quite durable.
And the autofocus was plenty fast.
Expansive Perspectives and Low-Light Excellence
The lens delivers a super wide-angle view, making it ideal for capturing expansive landscapes and offering a comprehensive view in vlogging situations.
A noteworthy benefit of the f1.8 aperture is that it makes this lens a solid choice for low-light conditions.
Unparalleled Image Quality and Handling
This lens truly stood out when taking landscape shots, offering a remarkably sharp output.
It’s also very functional for capturing spontaneous moments, whether in video or photos.
Compared to similar lenses in my arsenal, this lens is unique due to its wide angle and relatively fast capabilities.
The lens’ engineering precision is exceptional, which is evident in the image quality and its handling.
Conclusion
Overall, I believe the Sony E 11mm f1.8 lens is an absolute game-changer.
Especially if you have a crop-sensor body like the Sony ZVE10.
At this point, I’m debating whether to sell my large Sigma 14-24 in favor of this compact setup!
Also, the ideal user for this lens is someone who is looking for an ultra-wide-angle prime lens that can handle various shooting scenarios, such as landscapes, architecture, interiors, and astrophotography.
